TITLE:Travel the USA

GRADE LEVEL: 6-8
  

FOCUS OF THE LESSON. Students pick one of the 50 states to do research on the history, government, physical features, and
state symbols.

CURRICULUM INTEGRATION: English, Research, Writing, History,

TIME FRAME: 6 WEEKS
MATERIALS:
STUDENTS: Paper, pencil,pen, computer with internet access
TEACHER: 800 number of each state tourist information,
address of each state,and computer with internet
to research each state

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS:
1. States don’t answer in time frame
2. Sudents don’t choose all different states

LESSON:
Procedure:
1. Students pick a state
2. Students write letter and call state of choice for information on their state
3. The students will use the library as a resource for history of their state.
4. Students surf the internet to begin geeting information on state
5. When information arrives on states student start booklet
on their state
6. Students collect information in following order if
available:
State Motto
State Seal
State Flag
State Bird
State Flower
Any other state symbols that each state may have
History of state
Geography of state
7. Bind in a booklet
FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY: Share information on each state with others in class and discuss ways states are alike or different.
