Title – Timeline

Primary Subject – Social Studies

Secondary Subjects -

Grade Level – from 4th to 8th

This can be a review activity for the end of a History course.

Objectives:

– To give the students a whole view of the History course (American, World or otherwise).

– To get the students to settle into a particular period of time, individually.

– To encourage a sense of “team-work” in the class.

Preparation:

-The History book. Select the dates of the most important events of the course.

-Sheets of paper. Have sheets of construction paper, of various colors, one for each student.

-Markers, wide and fine, black.

Activity:

a. Give a sheet of paper to each student. Have them draw a line horizontally, 15 cm. from the bottom. This has to be equally drawn, because this will be the “Timeline” for everyone’s sheets.

b. Give each student an important event to write in their own sheet. Record dates in a mark under the line, and the name of the event (for example: Battle of Gettysburg) and a brief summary, above the line.

c. Decorate your classroom sticking each sheet beside the next one in chronological order. The timeline must be viewable in a continuous line. The colors will give such a great sight and students will have it fixed in their memories by seeing it everyday.

Evaluation:

You can evaluate neatness, precision and content.
