Aim; to increase children’s confidence, and improve speaking and listening skills.

Introduce Pepsi bear (on ordinary teddy bear) to the class and show the children that he is carrying a bag. This promotes a questioning session. What’s in the bag? What do you think may be in the bag? etc.

Next, show the children the contents of Pepsi bear’s bag. It contains a toothbrush, flannel and a letter from Pepsi bear.

The letter reads;

My name is Pepsi bear and I would like to be your friend. Please can I go home with you to play. Don’t forget to wash my face and brush my teeth before I go
to bed.

Love Pepsi bear xxx

Each night a different child takes home Pepsi bear and brings him back to school the next day. The child who took Pepsi bear home tells the class what they did, followed by the rest of the class asking questions.

This activity need only take 15 minutes a day and is loved by the children. It’s amazing to see the collection of items Pepsi bears bag acquires as well as listening to his adventures.

Follow up activities.

After a child has taken Pepsi bear home the child writes a sentence in their news book as to what they did and illustrates it. They can then copy their sentence on to the computer and illustrate it. From this a display and a book can be made, “Pepsi Bear’s Adventures,” showing a combination of children’s schools. Inspectors also like to see evidence of computer work!
