Development of Lesson:

    Introduction:

Students will become familiar with the newspaper and magazines. They will become more aware of the events happening in their city, state, nation, and world. Students will develop an ability to analyze current events for related issues.

    Methods/Procedures:

Once a week in the morning, students will be required to collect an article about an event that has happened overseas. They will read about it and prepare a three-minute speech about it. At the end of the day or during the day when we have some free time, students will summarize their articles for the class and the class can ask questions and discuss these events.

    Accommodations/Adaptations:

If there are children in my class with special needs, this is a pretty easy activity for them to do because it does not require a lot of analytical thinking, but more of an imaginative aspect which could benefit those with autism and attention problems. If the children do not like to present in front of a class, they can post their summary on the board and students can read it during the day and ask questions.

    Assessment/Evaluation:

Students will be assessed on their participation, summary, and quality within the guidelines given for their topic. They will not be judged on the topic or their opinions during follow-up questions.
