By – Susan Stolley

Primary Subject – Social Studies

Grade Level – 7

  • Rationale: Students know instinctively why the people of earth have selected their chosen places to live:
    • Water
    • Shelter
  • Organize students in pairs.
  • Give each pair a 12 x 18 piece of drawing papers.
  • Have the pair crumple their paper and then partly unfold the paper.
  • They now have a piece of the earth.
  • Ask them to imagine that they are flying over their piece of the earth.
  • Have them draw the following on their piece of the earth with crayons or colored pencils:
    • 4 different types of landforms
    • 2 different types of water bodies
    • 1 town
  • Students will present their maps at the end of class, show their different physical features, and explain why they have selected the town’s location.
