Title – Identifying National and State Monuments using Photo Story 3

Integration of Technology:

    During this lesson, students will use the Photo Story 3 or Windows Movie Maker to create a digital story of state and national monuments. This digital story will allow students to learn and understand the significance of state and national monuments.

      2. create written and visual material such as journal entries, reports, graphic organizers, outlines, and bibliographies.

General Goal(s):

    Students will study the history and the importance of each monument.

Specific Objectives:

    After students learn the history and the importance of each of the monuments that were assigned to them, they will, in turn, create a digital story of the monuments.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Students will learn how to utilize digital software to create a digital story.
  2. Students will learn the geographical location of assigned monuments.
  3. Students will learn the importance and the history of each monument.
  4. Students will use their creativity when designing and create a digital story of their assigned monuments.
  5. Students will develop their oral skills by narrating their digital story on assigned monuments.

Required Materials:

  • Computer with Photo Story 3 or Windows Movie Maker
  • Pictures of national and state monuments assigned by the teacher

Anticipatory Set (Lead-In):

  • This will a six-week project, the project will be divided in blocks. Students must be successful in completing one block before moving to the next.
  • Student will first develop the photo story using a series of photos of the monument assigned by the teacher.
  • Student will then find or create background music that is appropriate for the digital story.
  • Finally, students will narrate their digital story using the data they have gathered about each of the monuments.

Step-By-Step Procedures:

    Teacher:

    • The instructor will provide the students with the appropriate information regarding the use of a computer, i.e. tutorials on the use of Photo Story and Windows Movie Maker.
    • Instructor will provide a list of state and national monuments and the appropriate web links to research these monuments.

    Student:

    • It is the students’ responsibility to gather the required information from each monument assigned to them, i.e. physical address and history of monument and photos of the monument.
    • Students will use all gathered information to create a digital story about the monument. The digital story must be at least five minutes long and it must contain background music and narration.
    • The story must also contain effects such as transitions, cropping, zooming etc.
