Lesson Summary:

    Students will gain a better understanding of ancient Greek culture by preparing group presentations on a certain aspect of ancient Greek culture and explaining its contributions to the modern world.

Targeted South Carolina State Content Standards:

    Standard 6-2

Student Objectives/Learning Goals:

  • Learn about geographical, social and cultural aspects of Ancient Greece
  • Relate aspects of ancient Greek culture to the modern world
  • Enhance presentation skills
  • Build skills in team work

Procedures:

  • Assign students to groups of six people.
  • Have students research various aspects of ancient Greek civilization and culture.
  • The group should then decide on three aspects that are still present in the modern world.
  • Half of the group will research the ancient aspects, the other half will research the modern world aspects.
  • The group will present their findings in a PowerPoint presentation.

Materials and Resources Required For Unit:

    Supplies:

    • computers w/ internet access
    • electronic encyclopedias
    • PowerPoint

    Internet Resources:

    • online encyclopedias
    • images of ancient Greek civilizations and culture

Multimedia Components:

  • Internet site activity
  • PowerPoint presentation

Student Assessment:

    Assessment will be based on the PowerPoint presentation and self and peer evaluations.
