Objective:

    This lesson plan stimulates classroom discussion of basic values and rights. First, a personal evaluation is taken and then, those personal values are compared and contrasted with the class as a whole.

Activities and Procedures:

    Distribute the following sheet to each student:




American Political Culture

    Rate the following values in order of importance.

    Number 1 being the most important and Number 14 being the least important.


    They all must be ranked

    _____ Lack of discrimination

    _____ Government regulation of the contents of the airwaves

    _____ Patriotism

    _____ Tolerance of others

    _____ Freedom of religion

    _____ Right to bear arms

    _____ Government intervention

    _____ Justice

    _____ Right to privacy


    After students have finished, either the teacher leads the discussion or students can debate these values. Also, a total class ranking should take place, so that students can compare themselves with others.
