The first thing to do is to find National Geographics with many pictures of ocean animals. The teacher can cut them out and save them in a box to use as pictures to show the class when describing a particular type of animal in the ocean. I would start this unit with as many types of books as possible about the ocean. Different avenues to explore are animals, names of oceans, Location of different oceans, plants in the oceans and water temperatures in the different oceans. If time or for an extension plan it would be interesting to chart hi-tide and low-tide of different oceans. Also an interesting book report or oral report would be on the different depths of the different oceans. This is just an overview of an entire unit. Next we will discuss plant life.
