Title – Science lesson on spiders

Spiders

Focus: The students will voice what their prior knowledge about spiders in the form of webbing. With what they already know, a spider will be drawn on the chalkboard and students will place what they know on the spiders legs.

Objective: Students will learn facts about spiders and their habits.

Instruction: The students will participate in two different activities about spiders.

Activity 1: The students will listen to The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle. Then they will make spiders out of oreo cookies and licorice. Oreo-body and 6 licorice shoe laces for legs.

Activity 2: Students will learn about different types of spider webs. The students will look at the different types of webs shown in A First Look At Spiders by Millicent E. Selsam & Joyce Hunt. The kids will choose a type they like and make chalk drawings on black construction paper.
