Title - Introduction of Theatre of the Deaf as a synthesis of all arts

NC Competency Goal 6: The learner will compare and integrate art forms by analyzing traditional theatre, dance, music, visual arts, and new art forms.

Observe and reflect: The learner will attend a live performance of The National Theatre of the Deaf (tours Asheville in February) and will analyze (in written form submitted to teacher) the following elements in the presentation of a play produced by a profession theatre company.

Traditional Theatre: Analyze the play's structure, then analyze the ability of the hearing impaired troupe to communicate the story to a hearing audience through sign language and music.

Dance and Stage Movement: Analyze how the cast utilized dance and movement to display their intent in the story.

Visual Arts: What choices did the director make to in-corporate non-traditional visual effects to promote meaning for the hearing audience?

New Art Form: After experiencing this live performance, what do you perceive as a creative incentive for producing and touring a unique form within the traditional art of the theatre?
