By - Renee Dye
Subject - Language Arts
Grade Level - 1-2

Objective: Each student will be introduced to rhyming sounds by using poetry.

Material List: Index Cards
Markers
blackboard

Poem:
Frogs jump
Caterpillars hump

Worms wiggle
Bugs jiggle

Rabbits hop
Horses clop

Snakes slide
Sea Gulls glide

Mice creep
Deer leap

Puppies bounce
Kittens pounce

Lions stalk
But I walk!

Procedure: Read poem to class, while allowing them to throw out examples. Continue the idea stage by placing them in groups of 4 based on ending sound (op, at, ock, ad, ot, etc.) Give each group index cards with the ending sound pre-printed. Have students write the beginning sounds to make rhyming words. Give an example, such as: map, nap, cap, trap

Evaluation: Each will be based on the ability to supply beginning sounds to complete word families.
