Title - Mi Perro Perdido (My Lost Dog)

Primary Subject - Language Arts
Grade Level - 3-12
Objective: Students will be able to follow directions (given in the command tense) to a location.

Materials:

1. copies of a map (could be the map of your school campus)
2. handouts of directions to different parts of the school
3. colored sheets of paper with 5 extra points written on each

1. Place new vocabulary on overhead or whiteboard. Students will copy into their notes and will repeat each word once. (Vocabulary would consist of words like to turn, to go straight, continue, turn left, and turn right)

2. Go over new verbs in the tu (you fam.) command tense (Commands would have been taught in an earlier lesson.)

3. Practice in the classroom with the map. Give each student a map with a beginning point. The teacher will give directions in the target language such as "Turn to the right" or "Continue straight". When finished, students should all end up at the same place.

4. The hunt for my lost dog begins. Have the students get with a partner. Give each group a paper with directions (totally in the target language). Their goal is to find my lost dog. The directions should lead each team to a different colored piece of paper. When they find the piece of paper, they are to bring it back to me in the classroom. This piece of paper will give each member of that team 5 extra points on their next quiz. As a general rule, I only give 15 minutes for the "hunt" to take place. (Before class, you should hide colored pieces of paper around the school. I usually use dog-shaped pieces of paper to fit with the "lost dog" theme.)

The assessment is the completion of the hunt. If the student team finds the paper (my dog), they have completed the objective. I usually give a quiz on directions too.
