Title – Colorful Hoops

By – Michelle

Primary Subject – Health / Physical Education

Grade Level – K-2

Equipment:

    1 hoop per child

    Laminated colored construction paper squares

    Cones (optional)

Scatter hoops on gym floor.

On signal, students will move around gym performing desired locomotor skill.

Progressions:

    1. On signal, students stand in any hoop.

    2. On signal students stand in hoop that corresponds with the color paper teacher is holding up.

    3. On signal teacher calls out a color, and that hoop must be put away. Alternate between locomotor activity and calling another color.

    For example:

“If you have a yellow hoop, put it on the cone. If you still have a hoop, jump rope with your hoop; if you don’t have a hoop gallop.”

Students learn color recognition, sharing hoop space and to travel safely.
