By – Dr. Kathleen Wild

Primary Subject – Other

Secondary Subjects – Art, Language Arts

Grade Level – K-4

Materials Needed:

  • Construction Paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • Glue
  • Glitter
  • scissors
  • hole punchers
  • Yarn of various colors
  • 8×10 brown envelope

Directions:

  1. Cut up the construction paper into 6″ by 6″ squares.
  2. Hand out one or two squares to each of the students.
  3. Let each of the students design one or two squares using the crayons or markers, or glue and glitter.
  4. Let the squares dry for about 10 minutes.
  5. The next step is to punch holes around the square’s perimeter one inch apart all around the square.
  6. Next, cut four pieces of yarn, 12 ” long, four for each square used. Therefore, if you have 10 squares for the paper quilt, you will need 40 pieces of yarn, 12-inches each in length.
  7. Then each child needs to sign the back of his or her construction paper quilt square. They can write “Get Well Soon” or “Hope that you feel Better” and then their name.
  8. Place all of the squares and include all of the 12-inch yarn strings into the brown envelope. Write the name of the child who is sick on the envelope.
  9. When the sick child gets the pieces, with help from their parent, they can weave the yarn through the holes in the squares creating a beautiful little Quilt Card.

Suggestions:

This will help the child who is sick, as well as let the child know that his or her friends miss them.
