Music Ideas for Note Values / Lengths:

Have students sit in two rows. And begin to pass a soft spongy ball to each student. This applies to whole notes, half notes and quarter notes. After passing the ball have the class count to 4 for a whole note and the child cannot release the ball until he/she stated the number 4. This allows for an individualized assessment of what a whole count of 4 really means.

Dice Roll:

Students will roll dice and state which dotes equal the dice roll. For instance, the student may roll a 3. The student should state that a dotted half note equals 3 beats or that 3 quarter notes equals 3 beats or that a half note and a quarter note equals 3 beats.
