Title – Cool Thoughts!

By – Kimberly Pederson

Primary Subject – Math

Secondary Subjects – Science, Other

Grade Level – 5th

Procedure:

Give each child the name of one of their classmates (

    to be kept secret

). Instruct them to write, draw and color a picture that describes their classmate (

    all positives, no negatives allowed

) in math or scientific terms. Once the children present their descriptions, they give them to the child they described for the child’s memory book.

Example:

I was given the name Alyssa. I chose life science to describe her. When I think of Alyssa, I think of a dragonfly because she is light on her feet and can flit easily from subject to subject without missing a beat.

    – OR -

I was given the name Joshua. I chose math to describe Joshua. When I think of Joshua, I think of the number 1. The number 1 is neither prime nor composite, but special. I think Joshua is special.
