Very simple, yet fun idea for the winter Olympics.

First, find out all of the countries participating in the Olympics.

Next, create graph for the class including all of the countries. Each day, have students keep track (by using newspaper or the Internet) of how many medals each country has won and graph them accordingly.

I have one large graph for the class and the students have individual graphs to keep at their seats.

Students could also create graphs of each country’s medals (i.e. United States’ Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals as well as the total number of competitors). Many other extensions are possible such as calculating the ratios of number of competitors to number of medals for each country.
