Title – Write about the picture

Primary Subject – Language Arts

Secondary Subjects -

Grade Level – Grade 2-3

Materials:

pictures from magazines and national geographic

pictures from old calendars

pictures from nature magazines

pictures of different people of other countries.

paper/journals

pencils

Procedure:

Have children look at a picture that the teacher picks out. Tell the children to write about the picture and what it makes them think of. Tell them to write the best they can and to have someone else proof read it also. Have them try to think about details in the picture they are looking at. Leave the picture up somewhere the children can look at it.

Objectives:

To have students write an informative paragraph about a picture. For students to learn to describe something and then write it down on paper. To learn to read and proof read their writing.

Extension:

Allow students about 20-30 minutes to write and then have some children share their papers with the class if they wish. Also suggest if they do not know how to spell something to ask a friend and then look it up in the dictionary!
