Overview:
The class will meet in the Media Center. The librarian, will teach a lesson in use of DISCUS, websites, books/periodicals. Prior to this Media Center visit, the class will have been taught MLA citation. The class will have been taught how to write a five-paragraph essay (thesis statement, intro paragraph, three-body paragraph, concluding paragraph, transitioning, etc.). The class will have been taught how to write a Works Cited list. This will be the first of three visits to the Media Center for research, documentation of an American author (five-paragraph essay).
Targeted Standards:
R1 — The student will integrate various cues and strategies to comprehend what he or she reads.
R2 — The student will use knowledge of the purposes, structures, and elements of writing to analyze and interpret various types of texts.
R3 — The student will apply a knowledge of word analysis strategies to determine
the meaning of new words encountered in reading material and use them correctly.
