Princess Smartypants by Babette Cole

(Evaluation and Appreciation)

First, I will read this book aloud to the class, making sure to pay special attention to the illustrations. I will show the pictures slowly to the whole class so that every child has a chance to see all of the pictures. When I am finished reading, I will ask the students to close their eyes and picture something that reminds them of the story. They can think about one of the pictures they saw, or they may imagine their own pictures in their minds. When they have clear pictures in their minds, the students will be asked to draw that picture on paper. They should draw or color whatever they picture in their heads. After they have finished their pictures, the students should write three reasons that they think this particular picture stayed with them (on the bottom or back of the drawing). I will hang these drawings around the room, and at the end of the day, we will have an exhibition in which the children will be allowed to stroll around the room and admire their classmates’ work.
