This is another variation of the ME Bag.

I teach language arts and math to students who have learning differences. Writing is usually NOT their strength! This project helps students to collect their ideas and then have a base for writing.

I ask students during the first days of school to get a shoebox and decorate it on the outside. The decorations can be anything from wrapping paper to brown paper bags that have been colored, glittered, etc. The outside decoration should reflect something about the student. On the inside of the box, I ask the students to bring in:

    1 photo of family

2 objects that represent favorite subjects

3 objects that represent their hobbies, or other “outside” favorites.

We share the boxes and their content in class and then set them up in the classroom. After the oral sharing, the students then write a paragraph detailing the box and its meaning. This has helped students to focus their writing.

The boxes in the classroom make a GREAT Back to School display for parents!
