Title – The Multi-sensory Approach to Words

By – Mrs. Kathleen A. Wild

Primary Subject – Language Arts

Grade Level – 5th-9th Special Education

Materials needed: small or large index cards, a pencil or colored pencils.

Directions:

    1. Have the student say the spelling word aloud first.

    2. Now have the student print or cursive write the word on the index card.

    3. Have the student spell the word aloud again.

    4. Now the student should write the word on the back of the index card and then check the front of the index card to see if it was spelled correctly.

I am a Special Education Teacher and I have found that children who have ADHD or dyslexia have been better able to establish spelling the word correctly after using this multi-sensory approach to studying their words.
