Assessment Plans:

Pre-assessment: Play a song and ask students to pick out different images of love from the words.

Outcome assessment plan: Have students go home and pick out their own favorite song or poem that show different images or themes of love.

Instructional Design:

    Introduction:

Open class by playing the song “Hands Down” and showing the students the words and letting them try to pick out the different images and themes of love. Then begin discussion of theme and imagery, and how they can affect poetry.

    Procedural Steps:

After discussion on theme and imagery, I am going to pass out different poems that I feel are excellent examples. I am also going to play different songs that give off different feelings about love, and show how they connect because of the imagery or theme.

    Closing:

End the class by playing a song that I feel best represents the theme of love.

Extended Activities:

Have the students bring in their own personal favorite poem or song that represents a theme of love or shows an image of love for discussion on Monday.

Modification Decisions:

One student has difficulty with their hearing, so while the songs are playing I am going to give him his own pair of headphones to help him hear the songs.
