Primary Subject – Language Arts

Grade Level – 9-12

This activity gives students an opportunity to move around as they proofread and edit their essays.

Materials: Construction Paper (6 sheets) and Time

Instructional Procedures:

1. Before students enter the classroom, write the following on the construction paper (one item per sheet)

    a. Punctuation Station 1

    b. Interesting Intro 2

    c. Organization Obstacle Course 3

    d. Definite Details 4

    e. Sentence Construction Junction 5

    f. Rough Draft Rookies

2. Place these sheets of construction paper in different areas of your classroom to designate areas.

3. Give each student a set of five numbers. This determines which station the student will go to when time is up.

4. Give students approximately 10-15 minutes at each station. While at each station, students will share each other’s work and provide feedback.

Punctuation Station — students only work on punctuation (commas, apostrophes, etc.)

Interesting Intro — students look closely at each other’s introductions. Is it interesting? Would you want to read the rest of the paper?

Organization Obstacle Course — Students are looking at organization

Definite details — are there enough details?

Sentence Construction Junction — vary sentence structure

Rough Draft Rookies — for those students who do not bring the rough draft to class that day. Their job is to write their draft.
