Title – Creative Notebooks

A creative way to present notebooks and teach organization skills as well.

Lesson:

When it is time to grade those boring notebooks, try something different for a change. 50% of my students’ notebook grade is creativity. I tell them they must present their notebook to me in a creative way. They are still responsible for having all of their papers, handouts, exams, etc. I give them the categories their notebooks must be divided into i.e. handouts, creative writing, journal entries, exams, grammar, etc.

I have received some wonderfully creative notebooks. It takes the boredom out of grading them and, for the students, it takes the boredom out of organizing them.

Some examples of notebooks I have received:

A notebook with a laundry theme

A notebook presented in a pizza box and the different sections were the different slices.

A notebook with a Wizard of Oz theme

A top secret FBI notebook.

A clothesline with cut outs of jeans, shirts, socks, etc., each as a cover for a section of their notebook.

It’s a lot of fun to see how creative my students can be.
