Title – Make a sandwich book

By – Debbie Haren

Primary Subject – Language Arts

Secondary Subjects – Art

Grade Level – 2nd

Materials:

construction paper in these colors: yellow, green, white, brown, red and light green.

These words either printed on paper or typed onto paper.

lettuce

tomato

pickle

hamburger

cheese

Cut out the construction paper in the shapes of the different items. Make the white look like a piece of bread one for the front and one for the back. Make the dark green a pickle. Make the light green lettuce. The yellow is for a piece of cheese. The kids could put circles on it for swiss cheese. And red is for a tomato. Make it a circle. Now on each page put the words.

Title of book:

Suggestions.

My Sandwich

My Favorite Sandwich

My Yummy Sandwich

Then on each page you put the name of the item. The last page should say something like Yum Yum. That was good. This should be put on the piece of bread that makes the last page. Then just staple the book together and have the kids read it to each other.

Extensions:

Have these as their vocabulary words for the week.

Talk about the food groups that each of the items belong in.

Discuss what toppings you like on your sandwich. Ketchup, or Mustard, or Mayo, or all of them.

Parents and kids alike will love making and reading this book over and over again!!
