THE NAMING GAME

The object of this game is to score the most points. First, cut
out the titles (categories) that you found on the page, including
the “!!Bonus Points!!” paper. Fold them in half and place them in
a cup. Next, do the same with all of the letters, but place them
in a separate cup. Finally, cut the numbers out and place them in
a third cup. Have the first student draw a number, a letter, and
a category. Now, set a time limit (say 3-5 minutes). In that
time, the student will try to come up with as many names for items
in the category drawn that start with the letter that was drawn
out of the second cup. The student tries to get the same number
of names as the number that was drawn out of the third cup. For
each name given that starts with the correct letter, the student
scores one point. If the student finds as many names as the
number that was drawn, then that student scores an extra five
points. Now assume a number “3″ was drawn as well as the
category “Animals” and the letter “T.” If the student says Tiger,
Toad, and Turkey, the student scores 3 points for each name given
and 5 more points because he or she was able to give 3 names (the
number that was drawn). If the student draws the
“!!Bonus Points!!” category, he or she draws another category and
scores two points instead of one for each name given as well as
seven points instead of five if the number of names given totals
the number that was drawn. Choose a number of rounds for the kids
to play. The winner is the child with the highest number of
points at the end of all the rounds. The player with the most
points at the end of each round is the winner for that round.
