Title – What Do You See?
By – Aliese
Primary Subject – Art
Grade Level – 1-3
Materials:
Art paper
Pencils
Pens
Markers
Crayons
Teaching Procedures:
To begin, you could ask the students if seeing a certain line or a combination of lines has ever reminded them of anything, such as the pentagon shape looking like a house, or a few circles drawn closely together to resemble a flower. Then, explain to the students that they are going to have the opportunity to create something artistic out of lots of curved and straight lines. You can show the students examples, if the instructions are too ambiguous.
First, give each student a piece of paper. Second, instruct the students to draw squiggles and swirls all over their paper. Then, tell the students to switch papers with a neighbor. The students are then instructed to create something out of the squiggles and swirls drawn by their partner. They may even just wish to fill in the areas with different colors or designs.
Most importantly, allow the students to be creative and let them use their desired media. However, to keep the classroom slightly more organized, paint probably would not be the best medium to use while creating this project. This is a great project for the “Tell me about your picture,” inquiry. It allows students to think outside the box and create something out of nothing.
