Title – Colorful Turkeys

By – Betty Linvog

Primary Subject – Art

Secondary Subjects -

Grade Level – 1 – 3

You will need:

9 x 12″ Black Construction Paper

Pencil

Oil Pastels or colored chalk

Elmer’s Glue

Kleenex sheets for smearing pastels or chalk

The children can turn the black paper either direction for this project.

I like to do a draw-a-long turkey for this, but I also give the children the option of drawing their own turkey. Either way, they turn out very different from each other.

After they have drawn the turkey, go over the pencil marks with lines of Elmer’s Glue being very careful not to glob it so it will be able to dry overnight. After the turkey is dry, use oil pastels or chalks to color it in. Smear the chalk so that it blends well. These are very attractive for a display either as whole sheets or cut out.
