Title – Paint with mud

By – Debbie Haren

Primary Subject – Art

Secondary Subjects -

Grade Level – preschool

Materials:

Dirt

water

picture of a pig or bear

Procedure:

Show children that when you mix water and dirt together the dirt becomes mud. Let the kids get a small amount out of the container and play with the mud. Let them feel how squishy it is and how it feels in their hands! Then after they have had some time to feel the mud let them paint a picture with the mud. They can paint a picture that should be brown such as a bear or they can paint with the mud as it is and put the mud on a picture of a pig. They can tell a story about how thee pig got dirty and what the pig is going to do next.

There are many stories about Pigs that could be read with this activity to tie into the painting a pig!

Have Fun!!
