Title: My Favorite Things

Performance expectations:

The purpose of this activity is to find out more about the students in your class. This is a great activity for the first day of school. It will help you and your students get to know one another better. It is also a great self-esteem booster.

Materials:

Roll paper (the length of a students body), crayons/markers

Directions:

  1. Trace every student in the class on a piece of the paper. Have the student decorate themselves. (they can draw their facial features and design their clothes etc.)
  2. Write on the sides of the body favorites: Favorite food, tv show, color, subject, toy, holiday (these categories will very on the age of your students)
  3. Work with your students in filling out their favorites and then hang them up in a hallway or in the classroom if you have room.

Assessment:

Discuss each one’s favorites with your class. You’ll be suprised how much you all have in common. You’ll get to know alot about your students.

Adaption:

This activity can be done on a weekly basis instead of all at once. You can have a featured student of the week which may make it easier for teachers with a large class.
