Title – Create your own Frog

Primary Subject – Art

Grade Level – 2

TEKS: 2.2a Express ideas and feeling in artwork using a variety of colors, forms and lines.

Learning Objective(s): After creating a paper plate frog, the students will be able to compare their frog to other frogs without error.

List of Materials Needed:

1. Paper Plates

2. Right Frog Leg Stencil

3. Left Frog leg Stencil

4. Frog Eye Stencil

5. Multi-colored construction paper

Pre-Activity Preparation: Have enough plates for each student and have enough stencils of everything for three students to share.

Transition: Everyone clear off your desk. Have out any colorful utensils you want.

Procedure:

Step 1 Motivation/Introduction – Pass out paper plates.

Step 2 Pass out stencils to every three students.

Step 3 Explain that each student is to trace one right leg, one left leg, and frog eyes on construction paper. Then cut out neatly around the shape.

Step 4 Color the paper plate and glue on the legs (on the correct side of the body).

Step 5 When finished bring to me to hang from the ceiling.

Step 6 Closure – Looking at our class frogs, in making our frogs what have we expressed?
