Title – Silhouettes

By – Jacquie

Primary Subject – Art

Grade Level – 1-5

Procedure:

  1. Pair up your students or work with a buddy class, using an older and a younger student pairing.
  2. Tape a piece of black construction paper onto the wall at the height of the first student’s head.
  3. Use a projector to shine light against the construction paper.
  4. The first child stands with their shoulder against the wall, while the other uses chalk to outline the head profile that is shadowed against the paper.
  5. Add a new paper at the height of the second student and trade positions.
  6. The students then cut out the profile.
  7. Make sure to hang them up with the chalk side down so the paper is clean.
  8. Have parents and staff guess who the students are.

Note:

It’s amazing how much they actually look like each child.
