Grade Level - 2

Materials:
books on different instruments used to forecast the weather.
paper
pencils
chart paper
names of local forecasters

Activity:
Read a book about different types of forecast instruments used today to predict the weather.
Discuss the book and talk to the student about the different things they learned from the book. Make a list of all these things on a piece of chart paper and leave it hanging in the room. Talk to the students about writing a letter to a local forecaster and asking him or her to come to their school and talk to them about the forecast and being a forecaster on T.V..
Watch a little of the local news forecast to find out names of local forecasters and how to spell their names. The students can either write individual letters and mail them all together or your class could write a group letter.
