The Colonization of Mars
Group Projects: 3D Visual Representation

Your group has been assigned the project of designing a colony on Mars by taking parts from the other groups designs and making a new one that is 3D. That means that you should consider such things as gravity, lack of oxygen in the atmosphere, cold temperatures, and the reddish-brown soil.  Look at the guidelines below for more instructions.

Materials to be used:
Paper and pencil
Paper towels
Balloons
Newspaper
Coloring materials
Scissors
Any other art materials needed in the construction of the colony are available upon request.

Your design must include all the following:
1.   The appropriate coloring of the surface of Mars.
2.   At least one component or part from each of the other groups' designs.
3.   Music or sound effects are optional but recommended.
4.   Use at least three different art mediums--clay, charcoal, balloons, etc.
5.   A miniature representation of the actual design must be made before the final project is started.  That means that the group must draw a picture on a poster board that shows all the components of the colony: transportation, shelter, food, and so on.  The drawing must also show the landscape and how the sun will look like from their colony.

Suggestions:
1.   Each member of the group should choose a part of the colony to design.
A.  One person could choose music or sound effects that would be appropriate for the design.
B.  Each person could design a part of the colony.  For example; one person could design the shelters, one could do the landscape, and so on.
C.  One person could write the description of the design explaining who did what and where their designs came from.
D.  One person could choose the top 15 pictures taken in class and be responsible for making a collage to be placed on the board as part of the title of the play.
E.  One person could draw the sketch of the colony that will be drawn much bigger on the poster board.
2.   Make sure to clean up your areas thoroughly.
3.   Take your responsibilities seriously because others are counting on you.
4.   Have fun!
