Title - The Incredible Yuma Bat and Clapper Rail - Writing Components

Secondary Subjects - Social Studies, Language Arts
Grade Level - 6

Period of Time: One-half month unit of study

Purpose: to introduce to the students the wonderful world of Bats and Clapper Rails.

Other Subjects that will be integrated: History and Science

Materials: Computer, Felt Board, props for roll play, Velcro images of Bats and Clapper Rails, and Paper drawings of Bats and Clapper Rails.

Language Arts Standards:
Strand 2: Writing Components
Concept 1: Ideas and Content
Writing is clear and focused, holding the reader's attention throughout. Main ideas stand out and are developed by strong support and rich details. Purpose is accomplished.
PO 3. Develop a sufficient explanation or exploration of the topic.

Objective: P C The students will be able to write a complete history in the form of collected research materials of the bats and clapper rails.

Anticipatory Set: These research materials will have designs of both the bats and clapper rails bodies where the students will write the histories inside the bodies then display the bats and clapper rails on the bulletin board.

This lesson plan deals with a drawing of both the Bat and Clapper Rail which will be filled in with pertinent facts of both these species which will be collected by group four and given to the students in a form of play acting and role playing. The group will demonstrate the behaviors of each also showing slides of Itchey Martinez the Bat and the Audubon Societies photos of the Yuma Clapper Rail in its natural habitat. This class session will be the culmination of whole months unit plan objective and the teacher will have put this particular lesson on the Mastery Lesson Plan for future use towards Aims testing. Each student will find something they have learned about that is similar to what they will be learning today. This will be played out and role-played too.

Accommodations: There will be the same assignments in Braille, and Sign Language charts.
