Title - The Incredible Yuma Bat and Clapper Rail - Reading and Vocabulary

Period of Time: One-half month unit of study

Purpose: to introduce to the students the wonderful world of Bats and Clapper Rails.

Language Arts Standards: (Concept - Reading Vocabulary)
PO 4. Use graphic organizers in order to clarify the meaning of the text

Other Subjects that will be integrated: Mathematics

Materials: Poster Board made of Flannel, Flannel Paper with Vocabulary Words written on them.

Objective: P Vocabulary Board Project. The students will construct a Vocabulary Board Project by collecting the special words associated with bats and clapper rails.

Anticipatory Set: Students will classify each vocabulary word and have a spelling bee to memorize these vocabulary words. Students will use visual and simulated experiences, cognitive domain by a board to display the vocabulary words they have found in the terms for bats and clapper rails.

The teacher will assign group one to start collecting vocabulary words pertaining to the Bat and Clapper Rail, then have them construct a Vocabulary Board to place the words on so they will see it every day. In the final days of the unit plan, this group will present to the students the Vocabulary Board and teach the other students the meanings of these words and have a Spelling Bee for prizes.

Accommodations: There will be the same assignments in Braille, and Sign Language charts.
