By - Regan Ware
Primary Subject - Social Studies
Grade Level - 1st
Time: 45 Minutes

Teaching Strategy: Whole Group, groups of two

Concepts to be taught: Different temperatures in different cities throughout the country.

Alabama Course of Study:
#1 Develop map and globe skills appropriate to develop mental level and grade level.
Behavioral Objectives:
    1.  The students will be able to locate certain cities on a map.
    2.  The students will be able to describe how temperature effects what we wear.
Materials:
    1.  Map of the United States big enough for students to pin objects such as blank cut outs of people
    2.  Crayons and markers
    3.  Tacks or tape
    4.  A list of temperatures and weather conditions for several different cities
Teaching/Learning Procedures
    A. Motivation
      1.  Read the list of temperatures from around the country aloud to your students. As you read, write the city and temperature on the board. Number each city as you go.
      2.  As you read, discuss with the class what type of clothing we would wear for each temperature and weather condition.
    B. Instructional Procedures
      1.  Pass out paper people. As you pass them out, assign students a number randomly. They will work with the city that corresponds to that number.
      2.  Instruct the students to draw the appropriate clothing on their person as if they were in that city with the temperature.
      3.  Instruct the students to write the number of their city on the back of their person.
    C. Closure
      1.  Have the students share their people and explain why they chose that particular clothing
      2.  Call on random students and allow them to bring their person wearing appropriate clothing and tack/tape them to the appropriate city on the map.
Evaluation: I will know students understand if they can successfully choose clothing for their assigned city and temperature and if they can locate their particular city on the map.
