Title - Using The Book: The Wall
By - Sheila Miller
Primary Subject - Social Studies
Secondary Subjects -
Grade Level - 2nd-3rd
Read aloud the book, The Wall, to students as they are seated outside around/near the flagpole. Discuss soldiers and veterans in their families. Students then return to class and write letters to veterans that can be delivered to local area Veteran's Hospitals/Clinics.
As an extra credit project, my students are given several days, including a weekend, to visit the local site of our Veteran's monument and trace (do a rubbing really) the names of my husband and father-in-law. They can also trace anyone in their family whose name might be there These are then shared in class, along with pictures and stories about the veterans in their family.

E-Mail Sheila Miller!
