TODAY IN HISTORY:
I have found it very useful to start each day with a mention of something that has occurred on that particular day in history. I have my students jot down these as notes and they sometimes appear as questions on a quiz.
To find these tid-bits of information I go to www.historychannel.com or use a search engine to find a spot that does the same thing.
You can use these facts in other classes especially art, music, and language-arts classes. With art classes you can throw in some art history everyday as well with music. In LA you can use these facts as ideas for essay writing.
I try to find 20th Century facts or something that deals with the lesson that day. I find that if you give the students something they can possibly remember it is easier to instigate discussion and it carries over into the actual lesson.
