Objectives: The students will research an Indian chief and present a biography of that

Indian chief to the class.

The students will compare their Indian chief to a present leader today.

Materials: Books on Indian Chiefs

Pictures of Indian chiefs

Indian clothing (if available)

Examples of biographical literature

Procedure:

1. The teacher will give a mini-lesson on biographies to help them
understand how to give their presentations. This will include reading
examples of biographies and explaining the writing style that is used.

2. The teacher will give the students background on some of the prominent Indian

chiefs by reading short excerpts of their life.

3. The teacher will show students pictures of Indian chiefs to give them ideas of which
they would like to choose.

4. The teacher will direct students on where they can find more information on their
Indian chief.

There will be a short class discussion and a journal writing on current leaders to help students relate the beliefs of the Indian chiefs to modern day beliefs.

Assessment: The students will be assessed by the following project assessment form with at least
35 points out of 50.
