1. Identify the different types of tourism and travel. Materials
* one marker for each group. * cards with different types of trips and vacations on each one. Have one for each student Procedure
* Have you ever been away from home * Where did you go * Why did you go. 2. Introduce students to the different classifications of travel and tourism. ex) adventure tourism, eco-tourism, business travel, vacations, pilgrimages, educational tourism. 3. Have them brainstorm quickly what they think each classification entails. 4. Give students an index card containing information or an example that fits into one of the travel/tourism categories already established. 5. Ask students to mill around the room and find others whose card fits the same category. 6. Have students with cards in the same category present themselves to the rest of the class. 7. Have the students in their groups to come up with a set of criteria to establish their type of tourism or travel. 8. Conclude by announcing that this unit will look at each type of travel or tourism in greater detail. Limits
* The students may be distracted by their own teaching taking place after mine. Interventions
* Try to engage and encourage the students so that they forget about their own presentations and participate in the exercises. Alternatives
If the students are hesitant about participating => Try to make them feel more comfortable by asking them prompting questions. Evaluation
How well the students participate. How fast the students find their classifications. Summative: How well each group comes up with their criteria. Enrichment

Use a lot of examples to help illustrate the different types. Follow Up
Have them for homework think about the following questions. * What is eco-tourism? * Who would it appeal to? * Where could you do it?
