Focusing on the future with current global issues
Technology Content:
Social, Ethical, and Human Issues: adhere to the use of copyright
Benchmark:
    Contemporary Global Issues
Learning Resources and Materials:
  • an overhead,
  • a computer,
  • a projector,
  • spreadsheets,
  • salaries of popular jobs list
Development of Lesson;
    Introduction:
I will ask the students what occupations they might want to pursue when they enter the work world. I will give them a list of some jobs they can pick from. They will then need to list the expenses that they anticipate having. They will then need to research on the computer, the cost of rent or a loan for a house mortgage, car payments, insurance, and their salary. We will then project how different global issues will affect their ability to spending, the costs of different items, and of course, their salaries.

    Methods/Procedures:
    Accommodations/Adaptations:
If there are children in my class with special needs, this is a pretty easy activity that does not require a lot of analytical thinking, but more of an imaginative aspect which could benefit those with autism and attention problems.

    Assessment/Evaluation:
I will do the project for several different jobs and see if the students' results are similar. I will see if they can identify the different global issues that can affect all of these different factors.

    Closure:
Students will submit a portfolio of their spreadsheets, some graphics and a PowerPoint presentation to the class on their field of study.
