Title – Family Tree

Subject – Social Studies

Grade Level – 1st

Each student should cut a tree trunk & glue it to a background paper. Have half-sheets of red, orange, yellow, & brown construction paper available. Each student takes as many half-sheets as they have family members in his/her house. At home, the student should trace the hand of each family member on the half-sheets. Then, write the name of the family members on the hands. Then cut them out & glue the “leaves” to the tree. On the tree trunk, write the last name of the family.

This is a nice project to introduce a Social Studies Family unit. It includes a link to science with the discussion of nature/leaf colors.
