Our Constitution at Work

Title - Our Constitution at Work
By - Bridget Murphy
Subject - Social Studies
Grade Level - Junior High
This plan is to assess the student's understanding of three of the principles of our Constitution: Federalism, Separation of Powers, and Checks and Balances. Students should look for newspaper or magazine articles that illustrate each of these principles. For instance, an example of Federalism would be new coins that are being minted, or a meeting to set policy of a local school board. Students will create a scrapbook in which they place the articles, a short summary of each article, and what principle is illustrated. This is a good assessment of application of skills taught.
