A. Introduction (3)
-
Good morning, class. Today we will be reviewing the male reproductive system. I
know that you have recently covered the female reproductive system so can anyone
tell me what secondary sex characteristics are? That's correct, they are changes
in a person's body when they hit puberty. Puberty is a good answer. Can someone
please tell me what is meant by puberty? Very good, it is a sequence of events
by which a child becomes a young adult; characterized by secretions of hormones,
development of secondary sexual characteristics, reproductive functions, and
growth spurts. Does anyone know what hormone is responsible for producing male
secondary sex traits? Yes, testosterone. What about in women? Estrogen is
correct. Can you please help me to name some of the male secondary sex
characteristics? Increased height, perspiration, muscle mass, size of
reproduction organs. Growth of underarm hair, pubic hair, broader shoulders,
deepened voice, formation of sperm.
B. Content (30)
-
1. Male Reproductive Organs
-

(a) Penis, scrotum, testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate
gland, Cowper's glands, and urethra.
b. What function(s) do(es) the penis serve in the male reproduction system?
(a) It is the sex organ used in reproduction and urination.
c. What is the scrotum?

temperature.
d. What do the testes produce?
(a) They produce testosterone and sperm cells.
e. Where is the epididymis located?
(a) On the top of the testes so the sperm can mature.

2. Healthy Habits for male teens

STDs
b. Bathe or shower daily – keeping your reproductive organs clean is important
because it will cut down possible infection and reduce the risk of cancer of the
penis.
c. Wear protective clothing for sports – Athletic support is necessary for the
penis and testes and a cup can prevent injuries to those organs additionally.
d. Perform TSE – Testicular self-examinations are a way to check your own
testicles for lumps or tenderness.
e. Have regular medical checkups – a physician can examine a male and answer any
question he has.
f. Get medical attention for signs of infection – lumps, sores, rashes, or a
discharge from the penis require medical attention. These can be symptoms of
STDs.

they can label each organ on the diagram
5. They should take turns quizzing partner A first and B second
6. The students were also given a word search with male reproductive vocabulary
to help strengthen the students understanding of the material.
