If it walks like a duck... or a crab, bear, deer or bunny, it must be a... student doing "Animal Warm-Ups"

Title – Animal Warm-up

Primary Subject – Health / Physical Education

Grade Level – K-5

Objectives:

    Warm-up/loosen

Prior Learning:

  • lunges
  • crab walk
  • bear walk
  • hopping
  • skipping
  • jogging

Procedure:

  1. Begin with all students lined up out of boundaries on a basketball court
  2. Make sure all students have enough personal space
  3. Tell students to begin jogging around the outside of the court
  4. When you yell “bear” students must begin walking on their hands and feet
  5. When you say “duck” students begin doing lunges
  6. When you say “crab” students begin crab walking
  7. When you say “bunny” students begin hopping
  8. When you say “deer” students begin skipping
  9. Have the students do all of these activities around the outer boundaries of the court for 3-5 minutes. There is no particular order for these commands to be given. Music could be added to this activity for more fun.
