Title - Obstacle Relay
By - Joan
Primary Subject - Health / Physical Education
Grade Level - 2 - 5
This is an obstacle relay game which can support specific skills or general coordination skills. It can be quite simple or made more complex depending upon the space and the grade. This game enhances characteristics such as team spirit and sportsmanship.
This particular version of the game was designed for a Grade 2 class in a hall or gym approximately 20 meters long.
Equipment: 2 skipping ropes, 2 hoops, 2 small basketballs, 2 teams (maximum 8 students per team)
Method: Place the skipping ropes approximately 7 meters away from the team, place the hoops with the ball inside the hoops approximately 14 meters away from the team.
A member of each team starts at the same time, runs to the skipping rope, skips 5 times then runs to the hoop and bounces the ball 5 times inside the hoop. (The ball must remain in the hoop) then runs to the far end, touches the wall and returns to the team and tags the next member. The team to finish first is the winning team.
If you have more space more activities could be included.
