By - Bertram03
Primary Subject - Art
Grade Level - K-6

Materials:
9x12 shades of green construction paper;
scissors;
markers;
the history of St. Patty's day;
a book of limericks and Irish blessings
or internet source on St. Patrick's blessings.

1 Let the students read and discuss the history of St. Patrick and the source of the shamrock as a symbol of happiness and good luck.

2 Explain that the symbol of the heart is also meant to relay the same feelings and greeting.

3 Have each student cut a heart out of green construction paper by folding a 9x12 paper in half and cutting on the fold into a half of a heart.

4 Open the heart and write on the surface a happy greeting or short lymric .

5 Have each student glue their hearts to two other students' hearts in a shamrock shape and add a stem with a word that best describes each of the St. Patrick's Day events, symbols, or traditions. Explain that in joining together each heart they have continued the tradition of furthering the love St. Patrick had for his people.

6 Display the shamrocks prominently in the classroom for all to enjoy.

Slante'yu vara! Joy and happiness.
